I arrived in Atlanta on a blustery January Afternoon in 1988 after many sleepless nights spent agonizing over my career options. My first order of business was to find a job waiting tables at night so that I could eat while pursuing my desire to become a successful commercial photographer. I then secured a business loan to purchase photographic equipment. Now I really had to be an attentive waiter. My photographic interests were mostly in architectural and industrial subjects. I had never really considered shooting a wedding until I was approached by a bride- to- be who had seen my portfolio from my early days as a photojournalist. Not bothered by the fact that I had never shot a wedding, she thought that I could approach her wedding as I would a feature assignment. I was willing to give my photojournalist training a new test, so I accepted the assignment. As the wedding unfolded I found myself captivated by all the emotions. That day changed my attitude about wedding photography. As we reviewed the proofs together the bride began to cry as she told me that her hunch about me was right. She also told me that I must pursue wedding photography as there will be many brides out there that are not impressed with the same old posed wedding photos. Well again her hunch was right. Although I still shoot commercial assignments, weddings are my passion and make up the bulk of my business. Most of my weddings take place here in Atlanta and in the Southeast but I will certainly travel anywhere to photograph a wedding. You may e-mail if you wish but I would really like to hear about your wedding plans over the phone or in person. |
